Shillong, Aug 26: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today launched ‘CM-IMPACT Read & Rise Meghalaya’ at Assembly Annexe Hall, Shillong, to ensure universal reading readiness.
The programme, a pillar of CM-IMPACT (Chief Minister’s Initiative for Maximising Pass Achievement and Classroom Triumph), aims to ensure grade-appropriate reading as foundation for academic progress and address learning gaps worsened by classroom disruptions, especially in rural areas.
Sangma said education remains top priority and the state is moving in the right direction despite complexities. Terming Read & Rise as one of few such initiatives in the country, he said investment in children today will show results in 20 years and yield highest returns for society.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui attended as guest of honour.
The Teacher Training Guide for Universal Reading Readiness, published by GREENAMMO and sponsored by the Education Department, was also released.
Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri said the state is going beyond NEP by focusing on early learning outcomes. Building on SSLC guidebooks, Classroom Readiness and Learning Enhancement programmes, the immediate goal is to ensure every child above seven can read within three months.
“If every child can read, that is the foundation of the entire quality of education,” Mantri said.
