The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today launched its own drive to prevent entry of suspected illegal migrants into the state by erecting an ILP check gate at Pahammawlein village along the National Highway 6 in Ri Bhoi district.
KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar and general secretary Donald V Thabah led checks on each and every vehicle entering the state.
Marngar said the check gate against influx is a mark of protest against the Centre’s delay to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act by the government in the state.
He said this was not the first time that the KSU laid check gates and will continue to do so if the governments and the centre and state fail to come up with a strong mechanism to address influx problem in the state.
