A resident of Belahari village along the Assam-Meghalaya border was arrested by Assam police for picking up stones to repair a road.
Bakstar Diengdoh was first arrested on June 10 and again on July 3.
Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun has demanded his immediate unconditional release stating that such arrest would hamper peace among the people of both the states.
“While border talks between Assam and Meghalaya is still ongoing, the Assam Forest department should also respect the sentiments of both the people of the two states,” Sohtun told reporters.
He said he had also verbally informed Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma of the arrest and urged him to take up the matter with the Assam government for the immediate release of Diengdoh.
