The Khasi Students Union (KSU) has said that the accusation made by the Coordination and Welfare Committee (CWC) of Shella Bholaganj against its members was a lie and challenged it to prove the allegations with evidence.
The CWC in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had alleged that the two non-tribals were ‘murdered in cold blood by miscreants of Khasi Students Union (KSU) following an Anti-CAA protest held in Ichamati.’
KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah while refuting the allegation in a statement today said the allegation was to mislead the public without any evidence. “Members of the CWC should control their tongue. We will not sit back if they continue to poison the minds of the people,” he said, adding “If they feel sapped in Meghalaya they can go back to Bangladesh and not to interfere in the law, land and trade of the Khasis.”
Meanwhile, the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) in a separate statement has condemned the allegations made by the CWC and said it is the duty of the police to find out the truth.
The FKJGP said that the police till date have not been able to find the killers of Lurshai Hynniewta and the cop responsible for the death of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, the former HNLC leader.
FKJGP secretary general, Eldie N Lyngdoh warned the CWC president Gopal Dey to refrain from making statements that will add fuel to the fire.
Both the KSU and the FKJGP have warned to hold agitations if the Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum goes ahead with their scheduled demonstration to protest against the murder of the two non-tribals.
The CWC in its letter to the CM had demanded for a probe into the deaths by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Investigation Agency (NIA) if the state police make no headway within a week.
The deaths of Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta in separate incidents came almost exactly four years to the day that another anti-CAA rally resulted in the death of KSU member Lurshai Hynniewta in Ichamati.
