KHNAM leader Thomas Passah today said that the statement made by cabinet minister Alexander L. Hek with regards to the issuance of no-objection certificate (NOC) and certificate by the Society of RR Colony is shocking especially after the Dorbar Shnong Rynjah and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) have made their stand clear on the matter.
“It is clear that the statement made by Hek is politically motivated. The fact that Hek said that till today he himself takes residential certificate from the Society of RR Colony makes us believe that all residents of this colony do not take residential certificate from the Dorbar Shnong of Rynjah but all certificates issued and used by the residents of this area till today have been issued by the society which makes all these residential certificate illegal and not valid as per law,” Passah said.
Stating that all other government documents issued in such cases need to be verified again, Passah said, “Now it can be said that all government documents issued to the residents, especially the EPIC have been issued based on an invalid document.”
The KHNAM leader urged the Deputy Commissioner (Election) to relook and verify all the EPIC issued to these individuals and any EPIC issued based on a certificate issued by the society should be cancelled and their names removed from the electoral roll immediately.
