The Regulation and Administration of Land Bill 2021 was passed today on the last day of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council’s winter session.
Speaking to reporters, KHADC Chief Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne, said that the bill was finally passed today with some modification as recommended by the special selection committee, which consisted of members from the district council, Law Department and the District Council Affairs Department.
Informing that last time, the special committee had returned the bill with some recommendations, he said that the bill now has empowered the Rangbah Shnong to issue land documents.
“Now the people don’t need to register land with the District Council, they can register with the Dorbar Shnong but they will at least have to give a copy of the land registered with the Shnong to the District Council for record keeping,” Chyne said.
Once the bill gets the assent of the Governor, the KHADC will work out the rules of the bill.
