The All Meghalaya Karbi Association (AMKA) commenced its three-day golden jubilee celebrations today at Purduwa Kharpati, Ri-Bhoi.
Founded in 1975 as the Ri-Bhoi Karbi Social Welfare Association (RKSWA), the organisation underwent a name change in 1985.
Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem was present at the inaugural event as the chief guest. He unfurled the AMKA flag and unveiled a commemorative souvenir to honour the milestone. Several key figures of the association, including chief adviser OL Terang, adviser HS Engleng, president Robert Jone Ronghang and secretary Bistokan Timung, also attended the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Syiem reassured the Karbi residents of Meghalaya that they are an integral part of the state and should never feel like outsiders. He stressed their historical and cultural ties to the region, emphasising that their contributions are woven into Meghalaya’s social fabric.
Furthermore, the MLA pledged his continued support for AMKA and the Karbi villages, vowing to assist in developmental initiatives, safeguard cultural heritage and protect land and natural resources.
