The Jaiñtia National Council today observed the International Day of Clean Air with a tree plantation drive at Mutong, near the Mooun waterfalls in East Jaiñtia Hills district.
The day is commemorated annually on September 7 in recognition of the fact that clean air is important for the health and day-to-day lives of people, while air pollution is the single greatest environmental risk to human health and one of the main avoidable causes of death and disease globally.
The tree plantation was held under the theme, “Together with clean air”. President of San Shnong, Keling Phawa said the district has been exposed to unhealthy air coming from coke factories and cement plants and through tree plantation the people can cut air pollution.
Chairman of the Environment committee Nini W Sungoh, members of the JNC San Shnong circle, Secretary of the committee Synjoy Bareh, Waheh Shnong of Mutong, Marshi Dkhar and others were present at the event.
