The Hynñiewtrep Border Disputed Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has stated that border residents of Labang Nongphyllut Pangam Raliang Elaka are facing threats and intimidation from the Karbis allegedly to scuttle their right to be part of Meghalaya.
According to the forum, as Meghalaya and Assam governments are working on a final settlement of the Block 1 area under the second phase of border talks, the people living in those areas are facing constant intimidation in various forms.
HBDRF Chairman Chandame Sungoh stated the border residents have been prevented to hold public meetings, especially on border related issues.
He also said and that people from Khanduli-Lapangap continued to be denied entry from the Karbi side and are prevented to sell their produce in Khanduli, Namdong and Wahiajer markets.
Sungoh also met West Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner with the issues and urged the government to speed up registration of names of villages under Block 1 and ensure the safety and security of the people.
