The ICAR Research Complex for North East Hill Region, Umiam, along with its regional stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), organised Swachhata Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight) from December 16 to 31, with participation from staff, students and local communities.
The programme commenced with messages on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene displayed prominently at the headquarters and regional centres. Awareness campaigns were organised to address pressing environmental issues, such as straw burning, with demonstrations on alternatives like composting, mulching and using straw as animal fodder.
Office premises underwent intensive cleaning drives, including the systematic weeding out of old records and digitisation of essential documents to improve efficiency.
