The body of 18-year-old Pynshailang Malieh, who had been missing since December 21, was discovered this evening in a river near Sohliya village.
Malieh, from Nongjri village, had a mental health condition and went missing from his home at around 8am four days before Christmas, prompting an extensive search by his family and local authorities.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Umsning Police Station, accompanied by the victim’s relatives, located the body submerged in the river. Following standard procedures, the body was recovered in the presence of family members and preliminary formalities were conducted at the scene.
According to police officials, no visible injuries were found on the body during the inquest, which suggested that drowning was the likely cause of death. To confirm this and rule out any foul play, the body was sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for an autopsy. Further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
