The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has taken up the case of a female candidate who applied for the post of Associate Professor at the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), which was rejected.
The HYC met NEHU Registrar Prof. A. S. Dixit and pointed to the lapses in screening procedure by the screening committee of the university with regards to the application made by the female candidate.
According to the HYC, Dr Natalie Jo-Anne Diengdoh had applied for the post online in 2022 bu the university rejected the application on April, 2023 by giving zero marks without any remarks for all criteria though she has the required qualifications and cleared the National Eligibility Test (Journalism & Mass Communication), University Grants Commission, 2012 and contributed tremendously to the state through her efforts in cultural conservation in various platforms like books, documentary films, radio productions, paper publications and others.
The HYC said three representations have been submitted at the portal to plead her case but no response was made.
“Since highly qualified applicants with vast experience are available from the Khasi Jaintia Community, we see no reason why they should be deprived of this opportunity to serve the university. It is also understood that so far the department is run by Assistant Professors belonging to other communities only,” HYC General Secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said.
He said NEHU should ensure justice to the deserving member of one of the indigenous communities of the state of Meghalaya.
