In view of the upcoming general election to the Lok Sabha and in order to avoid traffic congestion and untoward incidents during the period of movement of polling personnel, sector officers and zonal magistrate, all types of heavy carrier vehicles plying with Sohra civil subdivision will be halted from 5pm of April 17 to 5pm of April 20.
Meghalaya will go to the polls on April 19.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate also banned roadside parking of heavy commercial vehicles. All these, and broken down vehicles, must be moved off the roadsides and parked in open space.
Work to lay water pipes and optical fibre cables (OFCs) on Public Works Department roads will also be temporarily halted on the same dates. This is to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on election duty and to avoid disruption in internet service during the election.
These orders were passed under Section 144 of the CrPC by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Saloni Verma.
