The United Democratic Party (UDP) has released the names of nine more candidates, in its second list who will be contesting the 2025 Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections.
Three of these candidates whose names have been announced will contest the KHADC – Ryngkatlang Lyndem sitting MDC from Langkyrdem-Laitkhroh, Suly Lyngdoh from Mawsynram and Gilbert D. Laloo from Mylliem.
The names of the other six candidates who will contest the JHADC polls are – Medling M Swer (War East), Kat Kassar (War Central), Shlur Lamin (War West), Rimilangky Synnah (Nartiang-Wahiajer), Wailad Siangshai (Musniang-Rngat) and Damian S War from (Mynsngat-Khanduli).
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said that while agreeing on the candidates who will contest the autonomous district council polls, it is not the will of the State Election Committee or other committees of the party but it is the power of the people.
“It is they who will support these candidates,” Lyngdoh said even as he added that while choosing these candidates there may be two-three applicants from one constituency.
“I want to give a loud shout out to the leaders of the party where until now there has been no disagreement between the members while choosing our candidates,” the UDP president said.
He also appealed to those leaders in the party whose names were not agreed upon, to work for the candidate chosen by the UDP.
Lyngdoh lauded Mynsngat-Khanduli MDC, Dawan Lyngdoh for giving up his seat for another candidate.
“We should understand the situation in the constituency,” the UDP president said.
He also said that the party is hopeful that they will win the elections.
Amlarem MLA, Lahkmen Rymbui said that in the autonomous district councils the laws of the central and state government are in conflict with each other and therefore there should be representatives that understand the issues.
“Hence I am happy that the party has not randomly distributed tickets,” Rymbui said.
