A mini health mela cum mega camp was today organised by the office of the East Khasi Hills District Medical & Health Officer at Laitkyrhong Village under Jongksha PHC, Mawkynrew Bock.
The objective of the mela was to generate awareness about importance of Covid vaccination and other health services, government schemes and programmes.
Other line departments like ICDS, Sports & Youth Affairs, Agriculture, Sericulture, NRLM, Bank etc also took part in the camp to showcase their respective services and schemes.
Aadhar enrollment camp and MHIS registration was also set up at the camp.
Cabinet minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh who graced the occasion as the chief guest stressed and appealed to all eligible beneficiaries to come forward and take the vaccine. He said that the vaccine is safe and public should not doubt its efficacy and effectiveness. He exhorted people to trust the advice of doctors and experts and not to get carried away by fake news and false beliefs.
While government is doing everything it can to ensure the public are safe, people should also reach out and have individual and community responsible in ensuring that they are protected, he said.
East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, Isawanda Laloo emphasised on the urgent need to ensure that all citizens get their Covid vaccination as the pandemic is not over yet, as is seen by successive waves of the pandemic affecting countries across the globe. In those countries where vaccination coverage is less, the case fatality has been high, she added.
