In commemoration of the fourth Anniversary of Ayushman Bharat – Health & Wellness Centres in Meghalaya, one of the scheduled health melas was today held in Mairang at the Madan Mot Tirot, for the benefit of local residents.
Assembly Speaker and local MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh attended the event in the presence of the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, P. M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner, W. Nongsiej, Superintendent of Police of the District, M.B Syiem, line department officials, traditional heads, students and others.
During his address at the programme, Lyngdoh spoke on the celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence and Meghalaya’s 50 years of Statehood and said that the celebration provides an opportunity to recall the sacrifices made by freedom fighters of the country. He said that it is also an occasion to celebrate the strides made by the State and the country in different spheres and sectors of development.
Lyngdoh also appealed people to accord top priority to health and wellness in their day to day life and added that the value of health is often realized only when one falls ill.
He further urged citizens to reap the benefits of various social security schemes including the MHIS, NFSA and to get themselves registered under the schemes.
During the mela, stalls including those for medical screening by different specialists for pregnant mothers, children, those with dental, ear, nose and throat ailments and stalls for TB, BP & Diabetes screening were set up.
Other stalls included the Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic, Adhaar, MHIS and PMMVY. Yoga and Zumba sessions for students were also conducted for students.
