The Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi District today announced its decision to file a PIL against the state government for allegedly failing to clear pending bills related to the implementation of MGNREGA in several villages of the district.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the headman body with village employment committees (VECs) from affected villages in Jirang and Umling blocks.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the general secretary of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi District, PB Sylliang, said that the Meghalaya government has taken the implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme very lightly and has forced the heamen to take the matter to court.
He also said that VECs in several villages are facing tremendous difficulties as the state government has not reimbursed them for expenses incurred on materials for the last two years.
Sylliang further added that the delay in releasing funds has led to delays in several of the projects of the flagship rural employment scheme in Ri-Bhoi.
