A mother of a six-year old child found pieces of broken glass inside a medicine bottle prescribed from the Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
As per the prescription, the syrup Acklogal-P was prescribed to the child who accidently injured her finger in a door, on September 25.
Members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) today met the District Medical Health Officer (DMHO) and called for an immediate inquiry and to stop the supply of the medicine in the state.
Expressing concern about patient safety KSU Nongpoh circle general secretary, Baiashanlang Kharshanlor said such cases must be brought to the notice of authorities concern.
He also said the government should exercise caution when procuring generic medicines for government hospitals, cautioning against unreliable suppliers who may provide unsafe medications.
DMHO, Dr TS Momin said that random samples of the medicine had already been sent for testing by the Drug Inspector and distribution of the medicine will be temporarily suspended in the district.
