Nongpoh, Oct 13: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (GKJGP) on Tuesday shut down the Megha Food cattle feed factory at Baridua, Ri-Bhoi, following complaints from residents over severe foul smell affecting daily life.
The action was led by Baridua circle President Denis Nongrum along with Allan D. Sohpdang and other members after receiving several complaints from locals.
Nongrum alleged the factory was operating without necessary documents, including NOC from village authorities.
Baridua headman Ioanis Narleng clarified the factory had not obtained NOC. He said the village had advised the owners to operate without causing inconvenience and would consider NOC only if operations did not trouble residents.
He said the persistent foul smell had triggered strong opposition from the community.
