The All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association, Garo Hills unit today said they are dissatisfied with the reply of Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui in the Assembly session with regards to their pay enhancement.
The association said the minister has failed in addressing to their problems while questioning him about the promises made and the time he will take to examine the demand.
President of the association Tengsrang K Sangma in a statement today said that the minister had promised that enhancement of their salaries would be done in December 2021 and assured them to wait till the 2022 budget.
“Here he has failed. All the fourth teachers waited happily for this budget session with hope and joy. But there is no result,” Sangma said.
He said similar assurance was also given to them before the 2021 budget session. “Where is your promise? How much time will you to take to examine the fourth teachers” he questioned.
The association is pushing for an increase from Rs 12,000 a month to Rs 20,493, which would put them at par with other teachers in the state according to the principle of ‘equal pay for equal work’.
“With hike in prices of all the commodities we the fourth teachers are facing numerous problems. With Rs 12,000 we can no longer survive. We also cannot apply another job because most of the teachers are overage,” Sangma reiterated.
