Shillong, Aug 3: Ten women from three villages in Garo Hills will receive tailoring training along with financial and material support to start their own businesses under a new skill development initiative launched on Monday.
Organised by Harding Universal Trust in collaboration with Danakgre Baptist Church, the programme has enrolled women from Danakgre, Bokmagre and Dopgre. It aims to equip participants with practical skills for self-employment and long-term financial independence.
Inaugurating the training at DBC Conference Hall, HUT Chairperson Beryl B. Sangma said vocational skills are key to helping women become self-reliant and contribute to their households and communities.
Under the initiative, each trainee will receive a certificate, a sewing machine and Rs 5,000 as seed assistance to start a tailoring business. Officials said the programme could boost rural livelihoods by enabling women to earn from home, stitch uniforms and traditional garments, and supplement family incomes.
The event was also attended by Dr. Imnanungshi, Secretary HUT, and Pastor Traisberth N. Sangma.
