Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ri-Bhoi, under the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, organised a ‘Fish Fingerling Distribution Programme along with a Training on Scientific Pond Management’ under the Integrated Farming System (IFS).
The initiative aimed to promote sustainable and profitable fish farming practices among local farmers in the region.
Held yesterday, the programme focused on equipping farmers with high-quality, improved breeds of Amur Carp and Indian Major Carps, along with scientific knowledge to enhance their aquaculture practices. Experts from KVK Ri-Bhoi provided hands-on training on modern aquaculture techniques, efficient pond management and sustainable fish farming strategies designed to boost productivity and ensure long-term sustainability.
Addressing the participants, Bankitkupar Mukhim, Subject Matter Specialist (Fisheries), highlighted the critical role of quality fish seed and scientific pond management in increasing fish yield and farmers’ income. He emphasised the importance of adopting research-based, modern technologies to improve the efficiency and profitability of fish farming.
Ten thousand advanced fingerlings were distributed to the participating farmers as part of the programme.
