Shillong, Aug 18: MDC Titosstarwell Chyne has questioned the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council over the installation of new toll gates, saying the current Executive Committee had promised voters there would be no illegal ones.
Chyne reminded that the EC made the commitment during the election campaign. “The new EC, right from the beginning, had given a promise to the people of the Khasi Hills, especially during the election, that they would not put any illegal toll gate anywhere within the jurisdiction of the KHADC,” he said. “It is now for the public to judge whether the toll gates being installed are legal or illegal,” he added.
Chyne also said toll gate contracts should be awarded through open tender, but that was not done this time. “Another thing, the installation of the toll gate should be through open tender. But for this, they have not done so,” the MDC said.
