The episcopal ordination of Rev Fr Bernard Laloo (Bishop Elect) will be held on March 30.
Bedarious Shylla, member of the episcopal media committee, at a press conference said that Rev Fr Laloo would be ordained as the auxiliary bishop of Shillong Archdiocese. He will assist the Arch Bishop.
He informed that a host of dignitaries will attend the ordination ceremony, including all the bishops from the Northeastern states and the country.
Arrangements have been made for parking facilities to faithful coming from Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Ribhoi districts, he said.
Born on June 16, 1976, in Laitlyngkot, Meghalaya, Rev. Laloo was ordained as a priest on April 30, 2006. Since then, he has served in various capacities within the Church. He started as an Assistant Parish Priest at St. Paul’s Parish, Upper Shillong (2006-2007), before becoming the Administrator of Christ the King College, Shillong, in 2008. From 2009 to 2015, he served as the Dean of Studies at St. Paul’s Seminary, Shillong. He also held the position of Principal at Divine Saviour Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah, in 2015-2016.
Additionally, Rev. Laloo was the Director of the Social Service Center, Shillong, from 2017 to 2021 and a member of Caritas India from 2021 to 2024. Since 2022, he has been serving as the Chancellor of the Shillong Archdiocese and the Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah.
Beyond his contributions to the Church, Rev. Bernard Laloo has been actively involved in social welfare initiatives. He previously served as a member of the Farmers’ Commission and was also part of the State Tuberculosis Co-morbidity Coordination Committee under the Meghalaya government.
Academically, Rev. Laloo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s degree in Sociology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology.
