The Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Salbaripara, under Raksamgre civil sub-division has yet to take off even though the foundation stone has been laid many months ago, politician and activist Rimjen Ch Sangma said in a release today.
The land was made readily available but construction on the Rs 20 crore project sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has not begun.
An agreement was entered into by the Land Reservation Committee of Salbaripara and the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner wherein the committee had donated 12.4 acres of land for the construction of the school free of cost.
Writing as chairman of the Save B Mahal committee, Sangma, who had been vying (unsuccessfully) for a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket for the forthcoming state election, warned the state government against “cheating” the people.
