The East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC) has condemned the alleged refusal of two hospitals in Jowai for refusing to admit a pregnant woman and demanded for an inquiry.
EJNC-Western zone president Training Phawa in a statement slammed the Dr Norman Tunnel Hospital and the Jowai Civil Hospital stating such attitudes from organisations catering to health of the people is unwarranted and condemnable.
Meris Lyngdoh of Tongseng village in East Jaintia Hills was allegedly denied admission at the two hospitals in West Jaiñtia Hills and had to struggle for a day before getting admitted to the Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong for delivery with the help of a Good Samaritan, from Lumshnong, Shemphang Bamon.
“The action of the hospitals is uncalled for as it is like putting life of the pregnant woman in grave danger,” Phawa said.
EJNC president Sambormi Lyngdoh has also urged Health Minister AL Hek to look into the problems faced by the Khliehriat CHC. He said if the health centre is up graded to a civil hospital it would immensely benefit the people of the district.
