Development of North East Region (DoNER) Minister G Kishan Reddy today inaugurated 5G applications in all the North East states bar Arunachal Pradesh via online mode.
Reddy also inaugurated the 5G Experience Centre in Guwahati. This was part of a central government’s aim to boost digital connectivity for job creation, attaining other socio-economic developmental goals and meeting the sustainable development goal 2030 targets in the North East through improved and faster 5G mobile networks.
This project was executed by AMTRON in collaboration with various government agencies like the DoNER Ministry, Department of Telecommunications, Telecom Sector Skill Council, School of Planning and Architecture, Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, Design Innovation Centre, UIET, Panjab University and ALIMCO. The North Eastern Council (NEC) provided guidance and coordination.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that India’s digital economy has surged exponentially with the phenomenal rise in online activities for day-to-day life, which has already put India well ahead of some of the world’s largest economies.
Services such as Aadhaar, UPI and Digilocker have been instrumental in unlocking potential in India’s internet economy, he added. Based on this vision, the NEC has provided 100 percent funding for the roll out of India’s first 5G training labs and 5G health use case applications on a large scale across the eight regional states.
The minister also said that the initiative would prove a game changer when replicated in other parts of the country.
The project, completed in 75 days, includes four major components – one 5G training lab in each North East state and cloud supported MOOC courses on 5G and TSSC (Telecom Sector Skill Council), which successfully imparted Master Trainers for 5G labs.
