The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has strongly condemned the decision of the Government of India to organise the cleaning drive on October 1 which is a Sunday.
This decision of the government is a direct attempt to dishonour the sentiments of the followers of Christian faith in the country. The party therefore, appeals to every Christian in the State to boycott the programme and refrain from participating in the cleaning drive activities on the mentioned day,” the party said today.
Further, the VPP said that as per tradition, the cleaning drive should be organised on October 2 as part of honouring the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.
It may be mentioned that a nationwide cleanliness drive will be conducted on October 1 responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said that this mega cleanliness drive is part of the “Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva-2023”, being observed from September 15 till October 2.
