The Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) destroyed over 1 tonne of cannabis and 2.437 kilogrammes of heroin valued at around Rs 19.17 crore.
The drugs had been seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during various operations.
The destruction drive was carried out today by incineration in the presence of the Drug Disposal Committee consisting of officers of Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
Customs carried out the destruction in an effort to ensure efficient management and disposal of seized goods with a view towards enhancing public welfare and the nation’s well-being, a press release stated today. “Drug destruction also ensures that the nation is free from the menace of drug abuse,” it added.
