A new record of 450 Covid-19 infections were reported from around the state today, along with nine new fatalities. The total number of recoveries from the disease in Meghalaya also crossed 17,000 today.
Six fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures, with two from West Jaintia Hills and one from Ri-Bhoi. Seven out of the nine had developed Covid pneumonia.
The deceased were identified as Paroti Lato (49) of Mawprem in Shillong, Michin Rymbai (52) of Khliehtyrchi in West Jaintia Hills, Zingim Luikham (94) of Dhanketi in Shillong, Ribhalang Sangot (38) of Mawlai Umshorshor, Marween Syiem (58) of Jaiaw Lumsyntiew in Shillong, Augustine Lyngdoh Kynshi (58) of Pyndengumiong in West Khasi Hills, Kornel Marak (72) of Maikuli in Ri-Bhoi, Bukarson Sangma (67) of Upper Shillong and Phris Starwell Rymmai (29) of Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills.
East Khasi Hills accounted for a massive 312 of today’s reported infections – 10 among returnees, six armed forces/paramilitaries, 164 high-risk contacts, 74 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), six through screening, one health worker, three severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), two in Bishnupur, three in Diengpasoh, two in Jaiaw, one in Jail Road, two in Laban, two in Laitkor, one in Laitumkhrah, one in Lawsohtun, six in Lumparing, two in Mawbah, nine in Mawlai, one in Mawpat, one in Nongmynsong, one in Nongrah, one in Nongrim Hills, one in Nongthymmai, two in Khyndailad, one in Pynursla, one in Rilbong, four in Rynjah, one in Umsohsun and one in Upper Shillong.
West Garo Hills reported 45 new cases (32 screening, five police, four high-risk, two health workers, two returnees), Ri-Bhoi 27 (nine ILIs, seven high-risk, six returnees, two police, one armed forces/paramilitaries, one SARI, one screening), East Jaintia Hills 20 (15 ILIs, three high-risk, one screening, one returnee), West Jaintia Hills 18 (seven high-risk, six ILIs, two SARIs, one screening, one police, one returnee), South West Garo Hills 15 (nine ILIs, five screening, one health worker), West Khasi Hills six (four screening, two returnees), East Garo Hills five (three ILIs, one returnee, one screening) and North Garo Hills two (both high-risk).
There were also 206 recoveries – 148 in East Khasi Hills, 26 in Ri-Bhoi, 12 in West Garo Hills, 10 in East Jaintia Hills, six in West Jaintia Hills, two in South West Khasi Hills and one in North Garo Hills.
There are now 3,297 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,907 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 458, West Garo Hills 280, East Jaintia Hills 144, West Khasi Hills 132 and West Jaintia Hills 130.
In all, Meghalaya has had 20,579 Covid-19 cases, of which 3,297 are active, 17,040 have recovered and 242 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 82.80 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.18 percent. More than 3.61 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of today. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 366.43.
