Members from approximately 251 households of Mawkyrwat who have been without electricity for the past two weeks due to a defunct transformer today marched to the office of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd’s (MePDCL) Mawkyrwat Division to demand the installation of a new transformer.
The residents have demanded that a new transformer be installed within two weeks else they will lay siege to the MePDCL office.
Mihsalan K Turnia, who led a delegation of the residents, said that they were surprised that there were no officers present when they reached the office.
Turnia also said that the power utility takes weeks to repair or replace transformers whenever there is a breakdown. He also asked why the company fines consumers if they are late to pay bills but takes time to repair transformers.
