Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today visited Purakhasia and adjoining areas of West Garo Hills to take stock of the situation caused by the recent floods.
Sangma held a review meeting with the district and block officials at Purakhasia Block Office at Puran Bazaar.
He also interacted with the villagers and assured them of all support from the district administration and the government.
The chief minister said that besides houses a lot of ponds, plantations and orchards have been destroyed. He said that the Agriculture and the Horticulture and other line departments will work on providing assistance to the affected.
Sangma also inspected the catchment area near the river bank at Purakhasia and the bridge connecting Wagigitok to Akimpara over Grim river.
At Aikinpara and Posenggagre villages, Sangma had a public meeting listening to the concerns expressed by villagers. He assured of all assistance from the government and officials.
He also inspected the Thallang bridge at Angalangre and the collapsed bridge at Rimrangpara over the Norang river.
Meanwhile, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) yesterday continued its mitigation measures in the flood hit areas of Dalu C&RD Block in West Garo Hills.
A team of SDRF personnel yesterday was engaged in distribution of relief materials at Doriapara, Anggalanggre and Ganipara village.
It may be mentioned that the SDRF team has been stationed in flood hit Dalu area since last October 4 following flash floods due to heavy rainfall.
