As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva 2023 campaign, the Executive Engineer (EE), Public Health Engineering (PHE) Division Mawkyrwat, along with the District Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (DSMB) office conducted a cleaning drive at Mawkyrduk in Mawlangwir today.
Executive Engineer of PHE K. Nongbsaw informed about the establishment of a Plastic Waste Management Unit at Nonglang village for the storage of plastic waste collected from various parts of the district and that a Plastic Baling Machine would soon be installed to compact plastic waste, making it easier to transport out of the district for recycling.
He also stressed on the potential of converting biodegradable waste into organic manure and explained how non-biodegradable waste materials, such as steel and iron, can be collected and stored in a separate designated collection centers within the district, and then sell to scrap dealers.
Emphasising on the importance of raising awareness among the residents about the significance of maintaining cleanliness especially in tourist spots and public places he appealed tourists to refrain from littering.
The cleaning drive witnessed active participation from village heads and members of the executive committee of Mawlagwir village, Seng Longkmie, as well as officers and staff from the office of the Executive Engineer, PHE and DSMB (G).
