Children’s Day was observed today for 200 children in West Khasi Hills at a programme today, organised by legal, police and administrative arms of the government.
The event was initiated by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, office of the Commandant of the 4th Meghalaya Police Battalion and office of the Superintendent of Police, in collaboration with the High Court Legal Services Committee, District Legal Services Authority, Social Welfare Department and District Child Protection Unit.
It took place at the 4th Battalion base in Sohpian. Participating children from various child care institutions and schools of the district took part in the celebration.
The programme included various talent shows, games and sports competitions, singing and dancing competitions for children.
There were also stalls put up by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority and police. The latter were particularly interesting for the children as they showcased tactical equipment, arms and ammunition, fire and emergency service tools and equipment, etc.
Acting Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, HS Thangkhiew, who is also the executive chairman of MSLSA, was the chief guest. Also present were Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, who is also the chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
The programme ended with a prize distribution to the winners of the various competitions and was followed by entertainment led by the Meghalaya Police Cultural Troupe.
