As part of its ongoing public outreach initiatives, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, organised a special awareness programme at Kyntiew Shaphrang Higher Secondary School, Laitlyngkot yesterday.
The event was conducted under the themes of Swachhata Hi Seva, Poshan Abhiyan, and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, with the goal of fostering environmental consciousness, nutritional health, and civic responsibility among students and the community.
The programme is part of CBC Shillong’s continuous campaign to strengthen grassroots-level awareness and citizen participation through information, education, and communication activities.
Medical Officer and In-charge of Laitlyngkot PHC Dr. L. Jaba explained the spiritual and environmental essence of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and also spoke on Poshan Abhiyan, emphasizing nutrition as the foundation for a healthy, productive life.
He emphasised the role of children, mothers, teachers, and healthcare workers in creating a “well-nourished and healthier India.”
East Khasi Hill District Health and Education Officer O. Sumer spoke on dietary needs of adolescents. She focused on enhancing nutrient value through proper cooking, the importance of micronutrients, and prevention of anaemia through regular WIFS (Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation).
Anie Swer, Block Coordinator, Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, Khatarshnong C&RD Block, Laitkroh spoke on the importance of collective responsibility in achieving cleanliness. “Swachh Bharat is not just a campaign—it’s a mission that depends on collaboration,” she said.
To reinforce the message of hygiene, she also demonstrated the 7 steps of effective handwashing, engaging the students in a hands-on activity that emphasized personal cleanliness and disease prevention.
Longshisha Shabong, Principal of Kyntiew Shaphrang HS School emphasised the school’s commitment to integrating these values into everyday student life.
Gopajit Das, Assistant Director, CBC Shillong said the programme demonstrates how awareness can be turned into action at the grassroots level.
As part of the engagement activities, the programme featured an Art Competition on themes of cleanliness, hygiene, and nutrition, along with a lively Quiz Competition that tested students’ knowledge on health, environmental care, and national campaigns. These interactive events encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and active learning. Winners were recognized with certificates and prizes, inspiring others to take part and learn through participation.
The program concluded with a pledge by all participants to uphold cleanliness, promote good health, protect nature, and contribute to building a better India.
