The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has warned the general public that there are unscrupulous individuals trying to collect registration fees for SHRESHTA, a central government initiative.
SHRESHTA is a scheme for residential education for high school students in targeted areas, run by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It has come to the attention of the ministry that certain individuals are charging fees in order to enroll students in the scheme.
The DC made it clear that there is no fee for registration under SHRESHTA and anyone charging a fee to do so is committing fraud. More detailed information can be found on the ministry’s website, socialjustice.gov.in.
