Shillong, May 20:The Union Ministry of Education has invited applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor of the troubled North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
The incumbent VC, Prof PS Shukla, who has been absent for a year and a half now, is set to demit office in July. He has had a frosty relationship with staff and students alike and fled Shillong due to intense protests against his vice-chancellorship.
The online application window on the SAMARTH portal opened today.
A notification issued by the Department of Higher Education said the VC, “being the academic as well as administrative head,” is expected to be “a person possessing the highest level of competence, integrity, morals and institutional commitment.”
As per the advertisement, the applicant should be “a distinguished academician, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience as Professor in a University or 10 years’ experience in reputed research and/or academic administrative organization with proof of having demonstrated academic leadership.”
Candidates should “preferably not be more than 65 years of age as on the closing date of receipt of applications of this advertisement.”
The VC will be paid Rs 2.1 lakh per month plus allowances.
The ministry said the “appointment will be made from a panel of names recommended by a committee constituted under the provisions of Act of the University.”
