Builders digging for a construction project were in for a surprise today in Mawlynrei Nonglum here when they uncovered a large, unexploded artillery shell.
The shell was 13 inches long and 3.5 inches in diameter. It was placed into safe custody and is being examined by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Meghalaya Police and it will be safely disposed of in due course.
The land where it was found is privately owned. Investigations are being undertaken to ascertain how exactly such an explosive projectile came to be lodged on the property.
