Police personnel deployed in Lumshnong conducted checks of overnight buses today morning and netted a consignment of 40 soap boxes filled with heroin valued at a whopping Rs 3.6 crore.
In addition, the police seized around 9kg of cannabis and four mobile phones. The contraband was found on three passengers travelling in two separate overnight buses from Silchar to Guwahati through Meghalaya.
The three arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were identified as Amzad Hussain Laskar (18) of Rajnagar, Cachar, Assam; Monib Hussain Basker (18) of Bangram, Cachar, Assam; and Chamir Hussain Barbhuiya (age not provided) of Silchar, Assam.
This is the fifth major drugs haul in East Jaintia Hills in the last 10 days and brings the total value of seized contraband to Rs 15 crore.
