Shillong, Oct 23: A man who attempted to slit the throat of a minor boy with a sharp weapon in 2022 has been sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court, Shillong.
The convict has been identified as Deepak Debnath.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said the case was registered on November 22, 2022 after an FIR at Bholaganj POP alleged that Debnath attempted to kill the complainant’s son by cutting his neck.
A case was registered at Shella PS under Sections 307/326 IPC and Debnath was arrested. The chargesheet was filed on February 10, 2023.
On October 7, 2026, District and Sessions Judge, East Khasi Hills, DR Kharbteng convicted Debnath and sentenced him to six years imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 under Section 304 Part II IPC, with an additional one month imprisonment in default of payment of fine.
The case was investigated by UBSI R. Ranee, now posted at Mawdiangdiang OP, Shillong.
