The body of a young man who had gone missing while swimming in the Umtrew River was found today.
The deceased, identified as Pharius Syiemsad, a resident of Lumnongrim Dewlieh village in Ri-Bhoi, went for a picnic with friends on Sunday. However, he went missing while swimming in the river at around 4:30pm.
Upon being informed of the incident, the authorities launched a search operation but were unsuccessful until a Search and Rescue Team from Shillong arrived today. The body was finally recovered after an extensive search of the river.
The body was then handed over to the family after completing the necessary legal formalities, including waiving the post-mortem examination as per applicable legal provisions.
