The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District has informed that the Bhagan Mahaveer Foundation has instituted four awards, each carrying a sum of Rs 10 lakh, a citation and a memento in the fields of non-violence and vegetarianism, education, medicine and community and social service.
The aim of the foundation is to identify, nurture, encourage and honour individuals and institutions who are engaged in providing selfless service to society and also encourage others to follow suit, a press release stated today.
