Although Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma takes great pride in highlighting what his government has done for self-help groups and farmers, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state vice-president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak today accused the government of failing to release funds meant for SHGs, farmer producer organisations (FPOs) and other registered groups.
In a statement, Marak said that the central government has sanctioned funds for such groups for a variety of purposes. “However, the funds failed to reach the beneficiaries and the NPP-led state government is answerable for these lapses,” he said.
Alleging that the funds from the National Livelihood Mission are yet to be credited to the bank accounts of these groups, the MDC, who will likely challenge Conrad for the South Tura seat at the upcoming state election, said that the administration did not take the initiative to make the public aware of such schemes.
He further stated that the central government has taken note of this and this has made the state government hurry in verifying the documents of the concerned organisations.
