A beautification contest amongst localities in Tura will be conducted whereby winning localities will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 5-10 lakh, subject to the size of the locality.
A meeting with all the stakeholders was convened today by the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner for beautification of 107 localities in Tura and to conduct a competition amongst the localities with a framework for evaluation in various components to beautify and enhance the localities thereby making them tourist friendly.
Talking at length on the need to beautify the localities in Tura, the Deputy Commissioner made various suggestions including solid waste management, proper maintenance of water-pipelines, etc.
Stressing on the need to keep the environment clean, the DC also informed that reward will be given to those who took photographs of people disposing wastes into the streams and roads.
