Cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla yesterday inaugurated the Horticulture Collection Centre at Bataw under the supervision of the Maitlynti Rural Development Society.
The Maitlynti Rural Development Society is an organisation that aims to uplift farmers and promote farming activities.
Shylla lauded the society for all the assistance and encouragement it provides. He also expressed happiness over the sanction of Rs 23 crore for the repair of the Bataw Road.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills Gautam Warjri said that Bataw has great potential for tourism and assured to raise the matter with the district administration so that the region can be developed through the Meghalaya Tourism Site and Attraction Development and Management Framework Document 2022.
“Farmers’ produce will be gathered at the Horticulture Collection Centre and sold in markets in Khliehriat, Ladrymbai, Jowai,” Maitlynti secretary Deihok Sumer said. “The centre will help farmers who won’t have to go all the way to the market and spend their money for transportation, etc.”
He also expressed gratitude towards the District Horticulture Officer WC Pariat for issuing the work order for the project.
