Shillong, Oct 3: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed two-day visit to Shillong from Sunday has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, official sources said on Saturday.
Shah was scheduled to present the President’s Police Colour to the Meghalaya Police on October 5 and visit Mizoram the next day.
This is the second time the Home Minister has deferred his visit to the state capital, with the first postponement coming ahead of his initially planned September 24 trip.
“Yes, the Union Home Minister has cancelled his proposed visit to Shillong due to unavoidable circumstances and a new date will be fixed for his visit to the state,” a senior government official said.
Shah was scheduled to arrive on Sunday night and hold a meeting with state BJP leaders after the party bolstered its strength from two to 10 in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly.
Meanwhile, the office of the Director General of Police informed that the President’s Police Colour presentation ceremony has been cancelled.
“The presentation ceremony stands cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances. New dates will be announced in due course,” the DGP’s office said.
Shah was to hand over the prestigious Police Colour, a ceremonial flag awarded in recognition of exemplary service, to the Meghalaya Police during the programme at the state capital.
