Shillong, Oct 3: The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) will hold a rally on October 10 ahead of the Shillong Lok Sabha bye-poll, party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit announced on Saturday.
Addressing media persons, Basaiawmoit said the rally will be held at Polo Grounds at 12 noon to extend support to the party’s candidate Dr Batskhem Myrboh.
He urged supporters from across the state to attend the programme.
The bye-election has been necessitated following the demise of sitting MP Ricky AJ Syngkon, who died on February 19, 2026, at the age of 54 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a futsal match.
Syngkon had won the Shillong seat in the 2024 general election on a VPP ticket, defeating five other candidates including then MP and Congress leader Vincent Pala by a margin of 2,71,910 votes, and was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha.
