Cabinet minister and Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh held a meeting yesterday in Thangsning village to take stock of the increase in Covid-19 cases in his constituency, especially in Jongksha village.
Also at the meeting were the Block Development Officer and traditional leaders.
While expressing concern over the sudden spike in coronavirus cases, Lyngdoh stressed on the need for headmen, district authorities and the state government to work in concert so that the pandemic’s negative effects on farmer livelihoods can be lessened.
In this vein, the market at Madan Mawkathein near Smit market will be made functional to prevent overcrowding and help farmers sell their produce in a similar way that the Agriculture Department had operationalised markets in Upper Shillong.
The matter of requisite car passes for farmers was raised by the traditional leaders and Lyngdoh said that his department and the district administration will take care of these.
On the same day, Lyngdoh handed over an ambulance to Jongksha Public Health Centre.
