An awareness on improved varieties of winter vegetables and seed distribution programme for women farmers of Ri Bhoi district was today organised by the ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Umtasor Mawdkhar village.
During the programme 120 kits consisting six different types of improved winter vegetable seeds provided by CISH under their NEH development programme were distributed among 100 women farmers.
Ri Bhoi Farmers Union, Umsning facilitated in selecting the interested and needy vegetable growers with an aim to uplift livelihood of the women farmers.
In his address, Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK Ri-Bhoi emphasised on doubling income through vegetable cultivation and side by side reducing malnutrition.
Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture imparted training on importance of selecting good quality seed, producing healthy vegetable nursery and tips for cultivating vegetable to maximise profit.
D. Majaw, President of Ri Bhoi Farmers Union expressed his gratitude towards KVK Ri Bhoi in bringing livelihood changes through various horticultural activities and expressed his desire to work hand in hand with the institute in future.
