In a bid to disseminate awareness among the pharmacists and shop owners of retail and wholesale shops in West Khasi Hills on price monitoring of pharmaceutical products, the Meghalaya State Price Monitoring and Research Unit organised a seminar in Nongstoiñ today.
The seminar is the third conducted to discuss and understand the regulatory frameworks governing medicine prices and the importance of ensuring fair pricing for essential drugs.
The introduction of Pharma Sahi Damm app is to promote transparency and affordability in the pharmaceutical sector and enable people to check the prices of medicine. Through the app people can lodge complaint if pharmacies overcharged prices than the actual printed prices tag.
The seminar witnessed participation from key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, pharmacies, shop owners, retailers and wholesalers, highlighting the collective efforts towards promoting accessible and affordable healthcare services in the region.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B. Blah, who attended the seminar as chief gust, emphasised the crucial role of medicine and stressed the importance of ensuring the availability of affordable and safe drugs to all patients.
She urged medicine suppliers and retailers to prioritize accessibility for every individual in need, highlighting the responsibility to prevent anyone from being deprived. of essential medication
Blah urged pharmaceutical establishments, including wholesalers and retailers to refrain from overcharging, to promote fair practices in distribution of medicine in the district and to collaborate towards upliftment of health standards of the community.
The event was also attended by Additional Superintendent of Police D Moksha, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. E G Tariang Pajet, Assistant Drug Controller B.C Kharsyntiew, drug inspectors, Dr. Z. Marak, Y. Biam and others.
